Yon Kata

 

Section I, Part A (throwing techniques based on the Shichihon no Kuzushi)

 

Jodan-aigamae - Uke grabs right wrist with right.  Tori pushes at face, enters right as uke rides up, pivots inside wrist, then throws forward roll with step.

 

Jodan-gyakugamae - Uke grabs right wrist with left.  Tori pushes at face, enters left as uke rides up, pivots inside wrist, then throws forward roll with step.

 

Chudan-aigamae - 1st release, throw forward roll parallel to uke's step.

 

Chudan-gyakugamae - 3rd release, throw forward roll parallel to uke's step.

 

Gedan-aigamae - 2nd release, continue off-balance behind ukes' feet for backfall.

 

Gedan-gyakugamae - 4th release, continue off-balance behind ukes' feet for backfall.

 

Ushiro-ryote-mochi - Tori presents right side.  Uke grabs both wrists from behind.  Tori locks left hand to hip and steps to forward right, performing 1st release right.  Uke releases left grip.  Tori continues turning into uke and pushes to throw with step.

 

 

Section I, Part B (counter-techniques)

 

Counter to 1 - Starts as Jodan-aigamae, throw on uke's step fails.  Tori sweeps into right Mae-otoshi with left hand at elbow and throws forward roll.

 

Counter to 2 - Starts as Jodan-gyakugamae, throw on uke's step fails.  Tori sweeps into left Mae-otoshi with both hands at wrist and throws forward roll.

 

Counter to 3 - Turn into Irimi-nage

 

Counter to 4 - Take Kote-mawashi into Gyaku-gamae

 

Counter to 5 - Pivot into Irimi-nage

 

Counter to 6 - Pivot into Gyaku-gamae

 

Counter to 7 - Turn right, enter, Mae-otoshi

Section II (throwing techniques based on releases)

 

Migi-gyaku-gamae-ate -  Uke right wrist/collar, push forward, twist hand palm up, releasing grip and causing uke to recoil, follow back and sweep palm up to throw.

 

Hidari-gyaku-gamae-ate -  Uke left wrist/collar, push forward, uke resists, step under, sweep.

 

Uchi-kaiten-nage -  4th release right, step under 7th release into mawashi, throw forward breakfall.

 

Sukui-nage -  4th release left, step in as for 7th release, but kneel facing outside to block uke’s right knee, lead kuzushi forward over the top, scoop right foot.

 

Ushiro-waza-kote-gaeshi -  Two wrists behind, step forward for kuzushi, grip uke’s right hand in kotegaeshi grip, turn and throw with motion.

 

Jyuji-garami-nage -  Two wrists behind, raise both hands and step back under uke’s left hand, drawing uke’s right hand through into cross lock behind his left elbow, throw airfall.

 

Tentai-oshi-taoshi -  Uke grabs right hand and encircles collar with his left, escape with 5th release, keeping elbow high and throwing oshi taoshi.
